As Season 3 draws to a close, with the next season expected to begin early next year, I've completed extensive testing and gear crafting for the "Rain of Detonation" Run-and-Gun Explosive Ballista build. Here's a comprehensive guide covering the core concepts and practical insights.

Gear and Affix Choices

For the weapon, prioritize Bow Lightning Damage as the prefix, as it benefits from the -50% Lightning Resistance applied by Shock. Among elemental damage types, this yields the highest output. For the suffix, flexibility is key; I prefer Zever's Hunt for its effectiveness in 4-player Treasure Vaults, significantly boosting damage.

For the belt slot, aim for Iceberg affixes in high corruption scenarios, as they synergize well with penetration mechanics. For helmets, Plundered Blades is a solid early-game choice, being relatively easy to acquire with three affix slots. The end-game goal is Skullbone, though obtaining one with three strong offensive affixes is challenging.

The Brewmaster's Buckle belt isn't necessary below 1000 corruption. Consider it beyond 2000 corruption. Affixes like Life or other defensive stats work well. Critical Strike Avoidance offers strong defensive value, though the T5 variant provides a smaller benefit.

Gloves should prioritize Bird's Nest. Getting a three-affix version is difficult. In high corruption, gloves with Cooldown Reduction are recommended to increase the uptime of Decoy, Shift, and Dive Bomb.

For boots, prioritize Cooldown Reduction first, followed by Movement Speed.

For bows, look for prefixes combining Dexterity, Critical Strike Avoidance, and Lightning Resistance. Avoid minion movement speed affixes, as they cause turrets to follow you, often causing their attacks to miss.

Use two Jura's Rings, and remember to unspec the two Fire Damage nodes in the Ballista tree. In high corruption, suffixes like Mana Regeneration with Critical Strike Avoidance or Lightning Resistance are valuable.

The Void and Purified Midstone amulet is best in slot, though getting a three-affix version is tough. Its defensive utility is exceptional.

For relics, while Merwin's Writ with three affixes is possible, Shattered World is often preferable for its damage reduction. Midnight Inferno provides high movement speed but feels clunky; I don't recommend it for general use.

For idols, major ones should focus on Critical Damage and Armor Shred. Pair with bow critical chance idols to boost damage output. Minor idols should cap your elemental resistances at 75%. Swap to penetration idols for high corruption.

Blessings and Affix Adjustments

Physical Resistance Shred is crucial, as Ballista explosions scale with physical damage. Adjust your gear towards this later. The Lagon blessing is best for Lightning Resistance. The "Shield Decay Threshold on Kill" blessing sounds good but underperforms; stick with Critical Damage. Don't overinvest in armor; Minion Damage is often a better choice.

Skill and Passive Tree Setup

For the Falconer skills:

• Winged Vigilance: Aim for level 5 to maximize its duration.

• Falcon Screech: Level 3 is sufficient, providing strong damage reduction at lower corruption levels.

For the Shift skill:

• Deft Hands procs Shurikens, which, with the bottom-right node, grant significant armor.

• Invest in Shock Chance and Penetration to increase Shuriken bounces.

In the Explosive Ballista tree, you can reclaim up to 5 points for flexibility. Reallocate points from Explosive Trap into Shock Chance for more consistent application. Using Jura's Rings removes two skill points, but this can be easily adjusted in the Falconer tree.

For passives, don't touch movement speed nodes. Deactivate all resistance nodes. In the Rogue tree, max out Physical Damage. In the Marksman tree, maximize Dexterity and Damage nodes. This setup is optimized for pure damage in high corruption.

Gameplay Performance and Tips

While mapping, you'll have around 5700 armor with capped resistances. Combined with layered mitigation and a 2000+ shield pool (and roughly 3000 health), the build is extremely tanky. Armor can reach 10,000 while mapping.

This build comfortably handles up to 2000 corruption. For bosses, use Jura's Grasp gloves to stun and skip the first phase. The second phase can be skipped with a well-timed Fear from the "Stunning Assault" node. This build isn't recommended for pushing the highest-tier Echoes due to its high gear requirements.

In testing, the build achieves peak damage of around 73 million against dummies, often clearing them in seconds. For solo Tier 7 Julra, you'll need to use all 17 health potion charges to survive the final phase. A one-phase kill is possible but requires perfect execution and still takes over a minute.

Advanced Tips and Notes

When swapping gear, stack your skill points first before changing skills to minimize point loss. The bow's skill point is crucial; missing one point can disrupt your rotation.

In high corruption, resistances become less relevant; focus entirely on damage. Ascetic's Grasp gloves significantly reduce cooldowns. Pair them with Bird's Nest for best results. Use idols to flexibly adjust skill points, and aim for 5 points in movement speed skills.

The Ambition's Throne relic is useful for boss fights lasting over 20 seconds, but is generally unnecessary. This build is not ideal for pushing the absolute highest tiers of content due to its demanding gear requirements.
