EA reacquires the rights to Juventus for FUT 23

The video game industry's longest running rivalry continues as FUT (opens in a new tab) publisher EA has re-signed the rights to Juventus from Konami, creator of PES/eFootball(opens in a new tab) , which means the Italian team will be featured exclusively in FUT 23. For non-football leaders, it's like Games Workshop regaining the rights to the Skaven, which they had previously lost to the Wizards of the Coast.

This will be the first time the Serie A club has appeared in FUT 2019 since Konami surprised football fans by announcing that PES 2020 will feature Juventus as an exclusive club. Since then, EA has used the fake team Piemonte Calcio - literally "Pimonte Football", taken from the region where Juventus is located.

That's all changed now, because Juventus have returned to uh EA's massive management staff. EA Sports announced that an "exclusive multi-year partnership" gives them the rights to use the Juventus club logo, jersey and Juventus Stadium Allianz Arena. EA Sports also announced that former Juventus player Claudio Marchisio(Opens in a new tab) will appear in FUT 23 as a hero card for the game's FUT Ultimate Team iteration. Marchisio is a Juventus legend, winning seven Serie A titles with the club in 2015 and 2017 and reaching the Champions League final in 2015 and 2017.

Still, signing Juventus is a big bonus for EA, and it's farther away from reliable football experience and eFootball, where Konami is still struggling. It's been nearly a year since eFootball's disastrous launch(opens in a new tab) and there is still 'mostly negative'(opens in a new tab) on Steam, the loss of Juventus' license removes its signing team from the Italian league Reduced to just four.

EA is so confident in its games that it will drop the FUT (opens in new tab) brand starting next year, which means FUT 23 will be the last football game EA makes with FUT. The title when it launches on September 30.
