This allows for advanced "multi-tagging," where a skill like Incinerate can be modified to carry a lightning tag, completely changing its interaction with various gear and elemental buffs. This forces players to make strategic choices between different damage and utility nodes rather than simply stacking every available passive.

Beyond the skill tree, the legendary Horadric Cube is making a return, bringing with it a new reforging system and deeper rune integration. Early previews suggest that runes can now be inscribed directly onto weapons, potentially evolving the current rune system into something more reminiscent of the classic Rune Word system from previous titles. For this system to succeed, it will likely need to balance low-risk "pity" mechanics for mid-game progression with high-risk, high-reward crafting for the ultra-hardcore players. While the initial implementation may require several seasons of tuning, its presence adds a much-needed layer of permanent, non-random progression to the gear hunt.

Finally, the endgame is being expanded through "War Plans" and the "Echo of Hatred" gates. The War Plans system introduces loot customization, allowing players to choose specific endgame routes that guarantee certain types of high-tier rewards, effectively letting players decide exactly what they want to farm. Meanwhile, the high-density "Echo of Hatred" maps appear to be linked to a new "Charm" system, where defeating a final boss yields components for powerful character augments. Together, these changes aim to make the game more accessible and fun for casual players by enabling more "lazy" or automated builds, while simultaneously providing the depth and challenge required to keep the veteran community engaged.
